Hungry

We had a great cookout yesterday, and yet somehow didn't end up with any leftovers that make me happy. A lot of the food got left out too long, or the people putting it away combined a green salad with a pasta salad, apparently with the thought that that would make them both more appealing somehow? Not for me, anyway. So here I am with all this food and nothing to eat.

Ellie did great yesterday, though. We got a new, fabulously portable playpen for her a few days ago, and set it up on the deck yesterday. She spent most of her time being held by me or one of her adoring fans (my friends), but it was nice to have the playpen option handy. She seems to like it a lot. She's been trying to crawl for weeks now, and the playpen gives her a good practice area. Plus, I can just scatter toys in it, and as she wriggles her way around, she can gnaw on them at her leisure.

She seemed to enjoy the fireworks last night - or I guess I should say she found them very interesting. She had a totally solemn expression on her face as she watched them, clearly trying to suss out exactly what the heck they were.

We've had a delightfully lazy morning, just chilling out together. BB and I cleaned up the house while she directed us from her high chair, and we've had playmat time and jumper time and now we're having naptime (although that may be soon to end).

I ordered some storage stuff for baby food recently. I can't wait til it gets here so I can start making food in preparation for next month. She'll be five months old in two days (!!) and I want to get some good organic veggies pureed and frozen in preparation for when she starts eating solid food. The woman who does my favorite cooking blog, http://www.smittenkitchen.com/, recently started a baby food blog, www.smittenkitchen.com/baby, so I'm excited to try some of her recipes.
