Food, glorious food!!

We just gave Ellie her first solid food - organic rice cereal. It was a ton of fun. We made a spectacular mess during the process. She kept using her fingers to shovel the cereal off the spoon into her mouth.

I'd been planning to wait until six months or to play it by ear if she seemed ready after five months, which is basically what her pediatrician said to do. Well, the last few days she's been nursing almost every hour or so - really anytime I put her on the boob, she'd nurse like she'd just run a marathon. As you probably already know, dear reader, when you're breastfeeding your boobs get full of milk every few hours and sort of pressurized-feeling. I wasn't having that anymore because she was nursing constantly.

So I decided it was time. And what an exciting time it is! I really, really, really love nursing, but it'll be awesome to introduce her to different kinds of food and watch her expressions.

For her introductory round, she smiled in between spoonfuls, but she mostly had this thoughtful look on her face, as if she were thinking, "So this is what eating is like. Interesting!"
