Lot of firsts happening around here lately. Five days ago, on the Friday after (her first) Thanksgiving, Irie's first tooth made its appearance. Last night, Ellie slept wearing underwear instead of a pull-up for the first time. I tell ya, this is exciting stuff. She's been waking in the middle of the night when she has to go to the bathroom, for the last couple of weeks or so, and I finally decided that since I was getting up at four o'clock in the morning anyway, we might as well skip the diaper process.
Irie's been venturing into the wonderful world of real food, too. She's still trying to figure out this whole 'swallowing' thing, but she's getting there. She's certainly doing better than she was a couple of months ago, when I tried introducing her to avocado as her first food. She was, shall we say, less than impressed. A few weeks ago, we gave rice cereal a try, and then moved on to local, organic pumpkin; I had some local, organic pumpkin left over from the pumpkin I roasted and mashed for our Thanksgiving pie. She seemed to quite like it. Then we moved on to banana - not a huge fan, our Irie. Tonight I tried avocado again (or 'breastmilk guacamole', as we like to call it) and she seemed to like it pretty well. Certainly better than banana, and certainly better than she liked it a couple months ago.
Also tonight, Irie sat in a high chair in a restaurant for the first time. I'd forgotten how when they get to a certain point, all of a sudden all these firsts start happening at once and time seems to accelerate rapidly. I have a feeling this will be a whirlwind holiday season.
