Saturday night we had a few friends over to celebrate Ellie's second birthday. Good times. Since the official birthday song upsets her, we sang "Happy birthday, little Ellie, happy birthday," to the tune of her favorite song, "She'll be comin' 'round the mountain." I made her a chocolate cake roll filled with strawberry ice cream, which she and her dad both thoroughly enjoyed.
Later that night, as I was reading her a bedtime story, I noticed that her arms are still chubby enough for her to have elbow dimples. I savor those dimples, knowing that the next time I blink, she'll be getting her drivers' license. Maybe I should make her more ice cream cake, just to help those arms stay so delightfully plump.
I took today off so I could hang out with her on her birthday. So far we've gotten donuts and chocolate milk for breakfast; now we're watching one of her favorite videos; after that we're going to the zoo. An excellent day, to be sure.
