The Not-So-Teensy One

Ellie continues to amaze me on a daily basis. About three weeks ago, she just exploded into language. She adds new words every day now, and within the last few days, she's really gotten good at naming the colors of things around her.

She has probably a 50-60 word vocabulary right now - maybe more. It's wonderful getting to converse with her.

She got to spend time with all her great grand-parents over the last couple of weeks; my dad's family had a reunion two weekends ago, and my stepmom's family had a reunion last weekend that, by good fortune, happened to be in town.

Next up: potty training! *cue ominous music*

(What I am not saying: Abigail's birthday is next week. I think possibly my emotions are complex and overwhelming enough that I'm just kind of numb.)

About Me

My first child, Abigail, was stillborn five weeks before her due date, in August 2008. Thankfully, our second child was born healthy and screaming (with joy, I'd like to think) 18 months later, in February 2010. Ellie's little sister, Irie, was born 26 months after that, in April 2012.

While Abi's loss shot me into a world of grief and sorrow, Ellie's skyrocketed me into a world of happiness and - holy shit - infant care. Then Irie added even more fun and insanity to the mix. So here I am, just figuring out this whole parenthood thing... and profoundly grateful to be doing so.
