Rabbit, rabbit

Well! Happy new year, blogosphere. Let's call my revitalization of this blog my Chinese New Year resolution. My calendar new year's resolution is going pretty well so far - that is, to lose about 40 lbs - and so, having begun to exercise my physical muscles, it is time to begin exercising my creative muscles once again. Given my rather limited time for so doing, I'll have to consider Ellie's blog as my main creative outlet for now. It qualifies, in essence; it involves shaping a narrative, stringing together the pages and chapters of her days without reverting to maudlin cliches of cuteness, scrapping 'to be' for stronger verbs, writing tight & strong and, well, more succinctly than I'm doing now. It's not poetry, or my WIP, but it's a good place to start back, and it involves my favorite topic. Plus, I can think of no better project than chronicling my child's young days.

Anyway; I ramble. Actually, what I wanted to write about focuses more on the fact that her first birthday approaches at a galloping pace. Gasp! Shock! Horror! Grateful though I am that she's thriving, holy shit, did that go by fast.

She's doing so many cool things these days. She's nearly walking, and stands on her own, clapping her hands and saying, "Yay!", or waving a toy in each hand and laughing. She says Mama, Dada and yeah. A few days ago, when she was having tea (as I call heer afternoon snack), she exclaimed "Ummy!" after I asked her if her food tasted yummy. (The kid loves food. I'm very proud. Now let's hope it lasts over the next few years.) This afternoon during tea-time, when I complimented her on a good burp, she said, "Bup!"

So there you have it. First words: mama, dada, yay, yeah, yummy, and burp. Makes sense to me.
