Damn, it's been a long time since I posted. There were so many things I meant to write about, too. Sometime in the near-ish future I'll post the adorable and long-overdue photos from Irie's first birthday. In the week after her birthday, she started wanting to have books read to her for the first time - actually pulling them off the shelf, bringing them to us, and then holding still for multiple pages at a time. Amazing.
She started walking shortly after she turned ten months, another milestone I kept meaning to mention. Y'know, not a biggie or anything, though.
When she turned a year old, the only words she was saying were mama, dada, and yeah ("ya!" or "da!). This was in sharp contrast to Ellie's verbal development, so despite the pediatrician's reassurances, we were a tiny bit worried. However, it's been so nice having her say "yeah" to all our questions - such an agreeable child, especially when she gets exactly what she wants - that it still wasn't that hard to converse with her.
But we were still absolutely thrilled when, yesterday, she came up with her very own Father's Day gift by saying "night-night" ("na-na") for the first time (and second, and third, etc.) while waving goodnight to her daddy as I carried her towards the stairs. Super cute. If we become really awesome, we'll get a video of it soon, and if miracles really do happen, I might even manage to post it on here.
She's also been working on "ba" for both ball and beep (with accompanying wee fat finger to nose), but those aren't as consistent quite yet. One step at a time.
Ellie, in other news, loved her first semester of preschool, and is whiling the summer away with Little Bear, Legos, and a ton of outside playtime. The kid can climb like crazy. She's also a delightful gardening assistant, specializing in devoted watering of plants.
