a conversation with Ellie

While reading Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever this afternoon:

Me: What does a lion say?
Ellie: Rarr!
Me: What does a tiger say?
Ellie: Grrr!
Me: What does a leopard say?
Ellie, without hesitation: Leopard, leopard, leoparrrrd!

About Me

My first child, Abigail, was stillborn five weeks before her due date, in August 2008. Thankfully, our second child was born healthy and screaming (with joy, I'd like to think) 18 months later, in February 2010. Ellie's little sister, Irie, was born 26 months after that, in April 2012.

While Abi's loss shot me into a world of grief and sorrow, Ellie's skyrocketed me into a world of happiness and - holy shit - infant care. Then Irie added even more fun and insanity to the mix. So here I am, just figuring out this whole parenthood thing... and profoundly grateful to be doing so.
