Obviously, it's been a while since I posted on here. It's been kind of a crazy month. First we had this big event for the animal rescue for which I volunteer, so that took a lot of my time. Then (or possibly just before then, it all runs together) my mother was here for nearly a week. Then, during her visit, my camera broke. Effing hell. Not happy. However, I have obtained a new camera, and also my mother-in-law is here for nearly a week, so man, do I need to vent.
She's a very nice person. Really, she is. She has a heart of gold. It's not her fault that she drives me crazy sometimes. I nearly freaked earlier when she was singing "Jesus Loves Me" and other songs about Jesus to my daughter. My husband's not-so-supportive response was that I was overreacting and should 'chill out'. I am fully supportive of other people engaging in organized religion, but it's not really my cup of tea, and I don't like my child being indoctrinated in the cradle.
I guess I'm going to have to find a way to deal with it, though, because his mom and my mom are BFFs and go to the same church, and I'm sure they'll introduce her to their lord Jesus Christ at some point within the next five years. They're not Jesus-freaks, but they both definitely seem more religious than when my husband and I were growing up. I do want Ellie to grow up to be respectful of religions and spirituality, so I guess I'll have to allow her to be exposed to a variety of religious beliefs, albeit rather earlier than I would have preferred. And I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that she might like organized religion. Who knows - of course, my mom actually dragged me kicking and screaming to confirmation class when I was about 14, and I'm very happy with my personal spiritual framework, so I suppose a parent (or grandparent) can only have so much influence.
We took her to the doctor today for her nine-month checkup. She weighs 16 lbs, 11 oz, and is 27 inches long. Amazing!
In other landmark-worthy news, we attended her first live theatre over the weekend, a musical about the Presidents of the United States. She loved it. She was absolutely fascinated by the singing and dancing. It was so much fun.
